Simply Ingenious

The more remote the area one travels, the simpler and often quite resourceful the solutions to everyday necessities that local people come up which seem to be. On the island of Lembata in southeastern Indonesia, I found improvised gas stations of a very particular nature. They are incredibly flexible for the operator, can be installed without a lot of start-up capital, leave no significant environmental footprint and, on top of that, serve their purpose perfectly. For scooter drivers, there is perhaps no quicker way to fill up: just pour a bottle into the vehicle, leave the 10,000 rupee bill behind and take off. This makes refueling almost fun.
