High and shiny

High and shiny

The Petronas Towers of Kuala Lumpur were built when there were few skyscrapers over 400m high. I still remember my excitement in the late nineties when these slender 452m tall steel buildings were finally completed, with the impressive bridge connecting the towers 172m up. Sixteen years later when I finally traveled to Kuala Lumpur, long after a building almost twice as tall had been completed in Dubai, I was still overwhelmed by its height and the elegance it radiated. It was also hard to miss that the city’s residents felt similarly as they looked up next to me full of pride at their landmark.
