Cholitas

Cholitas

At first glance, many of them seem cold, grumpy and unapproachable: the so-called cholitas, recognizable by their man’s hat, thin black braids and a broadly lined skirt. But anyone who has done any research knows full well that these women are in many ways the victims of discrimination. Knowing that they endure domestic violence and racism on a daily basis, and that only since Evo Morales’ presidency have they been granted certain rights, I see them differently: Cholitas are strong and self-confident women who deserve admiration for what they have achieved so far.
