Beauty unrecognized

If you search the Internet for pictures of the small town of Kuta, which lies on the coast of the Indonesian island of Lombok, you will find dreamlike coral beaches with a turquoise sea. This is quite true, but only at high tide. At low tide, the water retreats far, and dark rocks and sandbars covered with green seaweed appear everywhere in the middle of the wide bay. When I took my daily walk to the beach in the late afternoon, it was low tide at the time, and I enjoyed watching local families wading through the shallow water with buckets to collect seafood. For me personally, this was a perspective of Kuta that was at least as attractive as the turquoise dream beach.
