A touch of New Year leisure

A touch of New Year leisure

In the province of Yunnan, China can be experienced from its more traditional side. Many of its towns and villages are well preserved or have been rebuilt in the vernacular style, and the population is made up of numerous small ethnic minorities. When I visited the beautiful, picturesque small town of Lijang, I was a bit disappointed because it happened to be the Chinese New Year and the town was overrun with national tourists from all over China. Nevertheless, I found places here and there in the small side alleys where a touch of traditional idle China was evident, such as this young man reading on the step of his house.
