Easy Rider

Shortly before the border to Thailand, I visited the quaint colonial city of George Town, whose cityscape had been shaped by the continuous arrival of people from a wide variety of ethnic groups and religions over the last few centuries. I realized I had missed the urbanity and multiculturalism of such cities during the previous months of traveling. On my walks through George Town, I was thrilled not only by the variety of culinary offerings and the mishmash of architectural styles, but also by the many artistic details that could be discovered everywhere. On some of the buildings I found particularly creative street artworks that had been installed a year earlier by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic for the George Town Art Festival.
