Chilean Rodeo

Chilean Rodeo

In the Chilean village of Villa O’Higgins, located at the end of the Carretera Austral in Patagonia, there is no post office, no ATM, and virtually no cultural offerings. Those who land here as tourists either go hiking in the picture-perfect surroundings or recuperate from the long journey to this remote part of the country. After a few days in this sleepy place, I found out that there is an occasional rodeo, possibly the only public event. It was nice to finally see the villagers together, and although I felt deepest pity toward the teased young cattle, I was impressed by this Wild West setting.
